Privacy Policy

MNI Bolton mobile application
Last updated: 10 October 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how Masjid-e-Noorul Islam (MNI Bolton) (“we”, “us”, “our”) handles information when you use the MNI Bolton mobile app (“the App”). The App provides prayer times, mosque information, Islamic resources, optional notifications, and related services for the Bolton community.

1. Who is responsible for your data?

The data controller for the App is Masjid-e-Noorul Islam (MNI Bolton), Bolton, United Kingdom. For privacy enquiries, contact us at secretary@mnibolton.com or via our Contact page.

2. Information we collect

Depending on how you use the App, we may process:

3. How we use your information

4. Legal basis (UK GDPR)

Where UK GDPR applies, we rely on: your consent (for example notifications and location); contract (to provide features you request); and legitimate interests (to run and improve the App and keep it secure), balanced against your rights.

5. Mosque membership in the App

The membership section is for people who are registered with Masjid-e-Noorul Islam (MNI Bolton) and pay the mosque’s annual membership fee. It is not a public social network profile: information is used so the masjid and you can keep membership payments up to date, show what is owed or already paid, and provide a record of membership fee transactions you make through the App. If you are not a member, you can still use other parts of the App (such as prayer times) without signing in for membership. Questions about your membership status or fee should be directed to secretary@mnibolton.com.

6. Sharing with third parties

We may share limited data with payment processors when you complete a donation or payment in the App. We do not sell your personal data.

7. International transfers

Some service providers may process data outside the United Kingdom. Where required, appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) may apply.

8. Retention

We keep information only as long as needed for the purposes above, unless a longer period is required by law. Local app data on your device is removed when you uninstall the App. Membership and payment records may be kept for as long as the masjid needs them for accounts, audit, or legal requirements. You may request access to or correction of account-related data, or ask about deletion where the law allows, by contacting us.

9. Your rights

Under UK data protection law you may have the right to access, correct, erase, restrict, or object to processing, and to data portability where applicable. You may withdraw consent at any time (for example by turning off notifications or location in device settings). You may lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

10. Children

The App is intended for general community use. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 without parental consent. If you believe a child has provided personal data, please contact us.

11. Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change. Continued use of the App after changes means you accept the updated policy.
